OFFIE MAG announces first-ever clubnight tour in response to venue crisis
Offie Mag’s “Long Hot Summer II” will see four events take place in four grassroots venues across England this August and September.
Off Licence Magazine, the Brighton-based independent culture platform, has announced its first-ever tour — a four-date clubnight series titled Long Hot Summer II, taking place this August and September in London, Manchester, Bristol and Brighton.
Each event will take place in a small, independent venue and feature a curated line-up of underground DJs, led by respected headliners including Steven Julien, System Olympia, Sticky Dub, and Coco Maria.
The tour comes in response to the ongoing crisis facing the UK’s grassroots nightlife sector.
According to the Night Time Industries Association, over one-third of UK clubs have closed in the past decade, while the Music Venue Trust reports that more than 125 grassroots venues shut down in 2023 alone.
In contrast to rising ticket prices across the industry, entry for each Long Hot Summer II event is capped at £5 or less, with the aim of encouraging people back into the spaces that form the foundation of the UK’s music ecosystem.
“Small venues are where culture is born” says Greg Stanley, founder and editor of Off Licence Magazine.
“They’re where DJs learn to play and where ideas can take shape without commercial pressure. This tour is about shining a light on the spaces that foster real community, new talent, and creative freedom — things that are increasingly under threat.”
The tour is backed by Champion Europe and supported using public funding by Arts Council England's Grassroots Music Fund.
Having built a loyal international following for its print publication, radio and online content, Off Licence Magazine’s expansion into national live programming reflects a renewed urgency around cultural infrastructure and a belief in grassroots club culture as vital public space.
