Kahil El’Zabar is a multi-percussionist, composer, and creative visionary from Chicago’s world-renowned improvised and avant-garde jazz scene. Blending traditional African rhythms with modern jazz expression. He’s celebrated for creating a sound that’s as much about spirit and consciousness as it is about groove and improvisation.
El’Zabar founded the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble (EHE) in 1974 as a creative vehicle to explore the links between African-American jazz traditions and African rhythmic heritage.
Collaborated with: Don Cherry, Dizzy Gillespie, Stevie Wonder and many more.
Sounds Like: The music lives in a jazz-blues continuum, driven by rhythm, spontaneity, soulful experimentation - rooted in ritual, healing, and consciousness.
