Elsa, Allexa Nava & Hutch will bring a beautiful mixture of Jazz, Soul & HipHop to celebrate Independent Venue Week.

The phenomenal saxophonist, flautist & composer Allexa Nava is one of the most exciting names in the bubbling UK Jazz scene right now. Her classical Jazz background & boundary-pushing mentally has created a composer who is able to harness the raw expression of modern jazz within beautifully complex compositions. Her well-received debut EP, Love Language, displayed an inspiring amalgamation of these influences & was voted ‘Project Of The Year’ by Brighton-based magazine ‘Offie Mag’.

Next on the bill is Hutch, an insanely talented artist from Brighton who announced themselves on the scene at the end of 2025 with a pulsating, aching song about addition, ‘Never Like The First Time’. The singer, songwriter & Jazz pianist is an unfiltered storyteller, mixing influences of Jazz greats like Oscar Peterson & modern artists like Little Simz & Anderson Paak, to purely express his grief & gratitude. As with Allexa Nava, Hutch is at the brink of acceleration.

This is the first Basics show of 2026, after a year of striding into new territories & pushing their own boundaries. Basics is a grassroots organisation aimed at connecting creatives & their ideas through multi-disciplinary events, exhibitions, workshops & more. As the tidal wave of technology washes away our communities, they believe it’s more important than ever to facilitate real world spaces for people to develop, share & exchange their creativity.

Since starting in 2024, basics has generated a growing reputation around the city for fusing a diverse range of genres & art-forms, leading to 10 consecutive sold out shows, appearing three times Folklore Rooms yearly ‘staff's picks’ & receiving outstanding reviews from Rapture Magazine, Brighton Source & WeLoveBrighton.
